While Christmas and New Year are festive and full of hope, the amount of events, gift shopping, and to-do lists can sometimes feel overwhelming and stressful. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle. But it is important to take care of ourself, especially during this busy time of year. There is an interesting article, "Managing the Seemingly Inevitable Holiday Season Stress", that deep dives on the subject.
At Beauty by Nature, we are all about holistic and mindful ways to improve our wellbeing, but also about simplicity.
So we wanted to offer you a reminder of easy ways to prioritize your well-being.
1. Keep Your Skin Hydrated
As we talked about in our last blogpost, between colder temperatures and heated indoor spaces, your skin works overtime during the winter months. Stay ahead of dryness by using a deeply hydrating moisturizer and drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Pro tip: apply your moisturizer right after a warm shower to lock in moisture effectively.
2. Make Time for Mindful Moments
Whether it’s five minutes of deep breathing, a short walk in nature, or a few stretches before bed, these small pauses can help ground you during hectic days.
3. Nourish Your Body
As a nutrition therapist, I can't avoid talking about food. Holiday treats are a joy, and they should be enjoyed without guilt. My advice is to shift the focus from restricting those less nutritious but delicious indulgences to adding good, nutrient-dense foods to your plate. Incorporate colorful vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats like nuts and avocados into your meals. These foods not only support your skin health but also keep your energy steady during the busy season.
4. Protect Your Sleep
With late-night gatherings and early mornings, sleep can often take a back seat. Aim for quality rest by creating a calming bedtime routine—turn off screens, sip on herbal tea, and let your body unwind.
If you struggle to settle your mind, consider trying Yoga Nidra, a form of guided relaxation often called "yogic sleep." This deeply restorative practice can help release tension, reduce stress, and prepare your body for a peaceful night’s rest. Even just 20 minutes of Yoga Nidra can feel as rejuvenating as a few hours of sleep, making it an excellent tool during busy holiday weeks.
5. Say “No” When Needed
It’s easy to overcommit during the holidays, but honoring your limits is a form of self-care. Choose the events and traditions that truly bring you joy and let go of the rest.
As you embrace this season of giving, don’t forget to give yourself the gift of care and attention. A little self-care goes a long way toward feeling balanced and energized.
